The Zelkova Quartet was founded at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2010 under the guidance of Petr Prause of the Talich Quartet. Finalists in the RNCM Weil Prize 2010 and winners of the RNCM Nossek Prize 2011, the quartet also competed in the RNCM Chamber Ensemble of the Year Competition 2011 and received the Audience Prize.
They participated in the RNCM Chamber Music Festival January 2011, performing Taneyev’s 3rd Quartet and will also play in the 2012 festival, performing both Ravel's String Quartet and Introduction and Allegro. They have many upcoming recitals both within the RNCM and externally.
The Quartet has received coaching from Gabor Tackas-Nagy, Levon Chilingarian, James Boyd, Thomas Kemp and members of the Navarra, Barbirolli and Heath Quartets to name but a few.
They have recently returned from a residency in France which involved a week of intensive rehearsals culminating in an evening recital. The Quartet also values the importance of musical education and has spent time coaching and performing on Pro Corda, a chamber music course for young musicians.
Although only recently formed, the individual members also have a wealth of solo and chamber experience including performances at Bridgewater Hall, Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square and in the Lake District Summer Music Festival.
