On 9th November 2007 Concert Royal will perform the “Most Fam’d Masters”

Concert Royal is one of Britain’s longest established early music groups. Named after Couperin’s ‘Concerts Royaux’ which were written for Louis XIV of France, the ensemble was founded by flautist Peter Harrison and harpsichordist John Treherne in 1974. Their aim was to recreate the sound world of the eighteenth century through research, study and performance on historic instruments and to share with their audiences an enthusiasm for early music.

Peter and John are joined in Concert Royal by soprano Margarette Ashton and ’cellist Rachel Gray. All four musicians have been awarded masters degrees from British universities in various aspects of music performance.

Over the past 30 years Concert Royal has given more than 700 recitals in every corner of the UK, performing in festivals and for music and arts societies, in churches, schools, and arts centres. In a long association with The National Trust Concert Royal performs in Britain’s finest country houses. The ensemble has toured in Europe, the USA and for the British Council in South America
